What’s in the Directory?
The Directory predominantly contains Queensland Self Help and Support Groups across a broad range of health conditions and wellbeing issues. For rare conditions, national groups may be listed if they are the only group in existence in Australia.
In some instances a Head Office may be listed, so as to provide a backup contact point in the likelihood that a small group may have disappeared or cannot be reached.
What’s Not in the Directory.
Professional services, Government or non-government programs, Counselling, Training programs, Educational or Personal Development courses, Food or Financial Relief Organisations, Closed to the Public or Limited Time Groups.
How is this Directory Different?
It is the only comprehensive Directory of Self Help and Support Groups in Queensland.
It is free to everyone, online, searchable and user friendly.
It has been adapted for use on mobile devices eg phones, iPads etc
What is a Self Help, Support Group or Peer Support Group?
All of the above groups generally relate to people who share the same condition or issue coming together for mutual support and information sharing. The group may also carry out a range of agreed upon activities. The differences in name usually just relate to how the group is facilitated and managed. (For a more detailed explanation please refer to the SHQ Fact Sheet “What is a Self Help or Support Group”.)
